When you should Do It Yourself - How-To Guide | 5 Steps
STEP 1
Before deciding, you need to know the problem in question to solve. Either make a repair, renovate something, or create an object.
To make a repair
- Observe well what is not working.
- Inform yourself about the behavior of the object in normal time and conditions of operation.
- Compare the two situations before vs after, good vs bad
STEP 2
After having noticed the situation, measure your assets and make a self-evaluation of what you have and what you lack in terms of knowledge and tools.
STEP 3
Take stock of the information on the web. Don’t just stay on google, use Quora too, especially when you have a specific question.
How is Quora different from Google?
As Arun Mutharasu said:
Google is a search engine,
Quora is an answer engine,
Google looks for answers in the database,
Quora looks for answers in the people’s mind,
Google filters bad answers,
Quora collapses bad answers forever!.
Often, but not always, I can find useful information on Quora faster than on Google.
Read articles, watch videos and images that inform you or inspire you with the solution. When viewing videos on YouTube, don’t forget to look at the comments. They can give you a head start on the credibility of the video.
STEP 4
Avoid getting caught up in the search’s flow until you don’t know what you are looking for. That can easily happen with the image search engine that is Pinterest.
STEP 5
Take notes in screenshot or text copy. Saving links to videos can be helpful in case you forget the keyword that led you to the video.
After guiding you this way, do you still have any doubts?
Is it worth it to do it yourself?
If you are an impulsive person, be careful not to act without thinking about the consequences. Don’t rely on the simple feeling that you will always succeed.
Stress can also cause you to lose control of the situation and make critical decisions. Stay calm and let yourself guided by the method I gave above.
A recent example
Let’s say you start a generator and suddenly, the starter string breaks!
What are you going to do?
Are you better off doing it yourself or paying someone to do it for you?
Make the choice between time/money, expenses and benefits. This relationship is very specific to each individual, and it can change throughout life.
Know that money is not always the deciding factor; time and expertise play a more important role when choosing how to accomplish something.
Today, we have to juggle so many responsibilities that our schedule is automatic. It is said that there is no catching up on time.
You can catch up on an activity in another time but not in the past. Therefore, having the expertise to do something without having enough time can create stressful situations.
Paying someone saves time.
Have you ever wondered: “Should I hire a contractor or do it myself?”
By choosing to do something yourself, you are increasing your skills and qualifications. By completing it, you feel pride and self-esteem.
But paying someone who has the expertise to do it quickly allows you to invest your time elsewhere and spend more money on the thing.
Because once the time is up, we can’t hit a reset button to get it back or to do anything to it.
What if you wanted to do it yourself?
DIY saves money
As Shania Cheyanne said:
“That depends on who is paying and what they can’t do, so they have to pay. I have never had to pay anyone to do, fix, repair, to build, or anything. I have always done all my car repairs, home repairs, my yard, landscaping, everything. I enjoy doing it.”
Money can be earned, lost, and then regained. Therefore, ask yourself each time what choice will bring you happier memories, self-esteem, happier relationships and better use of your time.
Making your own property a home that meets all your basic needs with a DIYer mindset is a process you go through over time and will give you an amazing experience.
How to do it yourself can cost less?
No need to buy each tool you need to perform a project. Depending on where you’re living, you can lend what you want in a tool library.
If you don’t have library tools in your local community, what to do?
Why not start one?
